Arcana Oblivium on Facebook asks:

Quick question: What is the estimated cost of all the tools necessary to create such masks? That is, not including any actual leather, but just the tools, like in the ultimate toolkit which you have.

I made my first masks with nothing but a barebones 'tooling' set (comes with a swivel knife and basic stamps), a modeling spoon, a ballpoint pen (for tracing patterns), printer paper ( for printing patterns), and a heavy duty utility blade. Altogether with a 40% off coupon from Hobby Lobby these things cost around $50.

I accrued the rest of my tools over time buying them used from eBay and eventually using prize money from winning a Tandy contest to buy the 'ultimate' set. This came with a lot of tools I'll never use on masks, however.

United States
Currently based out of Atlanta, I grew up in a multicultural family and spent much of my life traveling as a military brat. It was overseas in Germany at a young age that I fell in love with my first taste of fantasy in the collected stories of the Grimms Brothers and Hans Christian Andersen.

A creative mom encouraged me to get into crafts at a young age. I experimented with everything from making my own pop-up books to friendship bracelets and crochet. In my adult years, I rediscovered crafting as a great way to de-stress (and to make a good bit of pocket change!) A good thing, too, or I would've been buried by all of the products of my little experiments!

When *merimask introduced me to mask-making, I found my poison and became addicted to leathercrafting!

I’ve earned three degrees, a BA in English, a BA in Studio Art, and an MA in Arts Administration. I could never choose between my love of writing, of illustration, and for helping other artists.

Nowadays, my first book, Angelic Visions, is out on the shelves of a bookstore near you! I also keep a blog dedicated to giving advice and inspiration to other artists (along with sneak peeks of my latest works).

Current Residence: Atlanta, Georgia
Favourite genre of music: Ethereal Rock (Lacuna Coil, Evanescence, Delerium, Nightwish, Within Temptation, etc)
Favourite cartoon character: Batman
